• Winning project will receive US$20,000 for development (brazilian producers only)
• Winner of previous edition is in production for exhibition by channel
Registration is open for the documentary pitching session to be hosted by the History Channel at the 12th Forum Brasil – International Television Market, Latin America’s leading independent trade show on television programming. Forum Brasil takes place on June 15-16, 2011, at Centro de Convenções Frei Caneca in São Paulo.
The rules are available at www.forumbrasiltv.com.br. The pitching session is an opportunity to present independent audiovisual projects for acquisition, co-production or funding.
Responsible for a pitching at the event for the second year, History is one of the world’s foremost documentary and non-fiction series channels and is looking for relevant and entertaining content that presents history in an original and interesting manner. The channel will award a development grant of US$20,000 to the best documentary, two-hour TV special or TV series project. Series must comprise up to 13 episodes lasting 46 minutes each.
Up to five pre-selected projects will be pitched by the producers to a panel of executives from History and other free-to-air and cable channels on June 16. Projects will be judged for originality, suitability to the channel’s aims, relevance of the subject-matter, business plan (partnerships with other channels, sponsorships etc) and marketing plan (ideas for websites, on-air campaigns etc).
Last year’s winner was the documentary “Verão da Lata” (“Summer of the Can”), an Ideia Forte production that is currently under development. The documentary tells the true story of thousands of cans each containing 1.5 kg of marijuana that washed up on the beaches of São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in the summer of 1987-88, triggering impressive criminal, economic and behavioral events.
Registration for the History/Forum Brasil Pitching ends June 3. Forum Brasil – International Television Market is organized by Converge Comunicações.
